Finish Line
These aren't the best photos, so you all have to overlook that. I'm getting so close to finishing this sweater, but I need help making some of the decisions regarding the final touches.
I went to JoAnn today and bought some bias binding or whatever that stuff is called. I went with the lavender like in the photo, but now I'm not so sure about it. Thoughts on color? Maybe I won't be able to tell until I sew it on. Also, do you sew that stuff on by hand
Other problem: the buttons. I thought that I liked this big wooden one when I was in the store, but now that I'm home I'm not sure about it either. Of course, they only had one in stock, so I have to go back either way. Any suggestions about online button stores?
I love this sweater so much and I'm extremely anxious to finish it so that I can wear it! Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Omigod! It looks amazing - congratulations! I like the wooden buttons. I think the lavender bias tape is very bright so it would depend on what you're looking for (if the pic is accurately colored.) It would be a nice accent, but if you're looking for something more subtle, I'm not so sure? I've never worked with bias binding/tape/stuff, so I'm assuming a sewing machine, but again not so sure. What yarn did you use?
aahhh!! it's beautiful! you put the rest of us to shame... haha... I agree that, if the color is accurate, the lavender does look a bit bright. I'm not entirely sold on the buttons either, if the color is accurate. maybe it'd look nice with like a pale tortoise shell type button? I'm just envious that you're already done with all the knitting!
I've never used bias tape on handknits before, but I would imagine first basting or pinning it very well to the edge and then machine sewing it should work.
a couple questions: did you/are you going to block the jacket before sewing on the bias tape? are you (or anyone else) going to put in a lining? I've been debating about that, but I'm nowhere even close to being done.
Thanks so much for the suggestions! I'm still thinking...
To answer your questions, though... I used Elann Peruvian Highland Wool.
I did block the jacket before any attempt w/ the binding. I would love to line it, but my sewing skills are lackluster to say the least, so I'll be happy if I can successfully maneuver the binding tape. :)
Congrats on almost finishing, looks great! I can only agree with the other comments on the bias tape - bit strong, maybe? I love insanity's idea of pale tortise shell. but don't exactly know where one would get them?
I hadn't even thought of lining the jacket, but now my mind is tic-tocking! How beautiful would it look????!
omigod you've finished!! (well almost).,... please post a pic of yourself wearing it?
I completely frogged mine and am restarting
insaknitty - i was thinking about putting lining it it so that it's a bit more structured but i've never lined anything before!
It looks great. I'm inspired! Hard to tell from the picture on the bias tape/buttons.
I had to frog mine as well :-(
Wow! Amazing. I think it might take me awhile to finish but you've inspired me to keep on going...

It looks GREAT! I'm still waiting on the pattern to show up.
I think the tape is too bright.
I also think the button is the wrong tone. It's like a yellow tone instead of a nice dark wood tone - and I don't think it's working with the gray of the sweater.
That looks adorable! I think I am going to make one.
You can try MJ Trim (http://mjtrim.com/catalog/category.aspx?category=Buttons) for buttons; they have a million. Or stop by the store if you are in NYC.
Congrats Laura!! your jacket looks awesome! Thanks for posting. I really need to get my act together...I've been slacking big time :)
Laura, it's beautiful. I've been thinking about lining also. The jacket reminds me of Chanel tweed so I'm madly googling lined jackets by Chanel...
